Pehli Si Muhabbat Episode 11 Review
Pehli Si Mohabbat's meaningful conversations that are well-written continue to be his greatest strength. We see these situations quite often in plays, but most of the time the writers don't express the underlying hypocrisy and double standards of society out loud in the form of dialogue, as Faiza Iftikhar did in this drama. There was so much conversation tonight that highlighted the privileges men enjoy in our society. However, the writer has kept her broader perspective by showing that the men "in power" are more often the ones who take advantage of their position and manage everyone's lives. That is why we also have men like Aslam and Sikandar. These concise dialogues reflect the various complications of the family system, which has been accepted as "normal" but is in no way based on equality!
Seeing Pehli Si Mohabbat was a pleasantly surprising experience as I was expecting to see (just) a powerful love story and not a drama highlighting social issues that very often are not even seen as "problems", so extraordinary. While watching an episode of Pehli Si Mohabbat, I don't realize how much meaningful dialogue has been intelligently integrated into a single episode. It's only when I sit down to write the review that I realize how effectively this drama speaks about things we don't talk about often.
Mothers take the initiativeThis was another one of those episodes in which the minor characters stood out again. While the Aslam and Rakhshi track is the central story around which all tracks revolve, the well-defined minor characters in this drama hold more surprises in store than the main protagonists. Today's episode belonged to the mothers because they stood by their children. Aslam's mother and Nargis handled the whole situation with such grace; We definitely have to see mothers like that in dramas. We always see caring but helpless mothers, but we rarely see mothers defending their children. Aslam’s mother obviously changed her approach based on her previous decision and Nargis can relate to Rakhshi's pain. These mothers are not "perfect", they made mistakes, but they are really trying now to make things right for their children.

I didn't expect Aslam's mother to be so calm and calculated when she spoke to Faiz Ullah. She tried her best to convince Faiz Ullah, and even after being insulted, she did not lose her temper. She later became more interested in knowing what Akram was hiding from her and it was all to save Rakhshi's "reputation". Saba Faisal is an extraordinary actress with a clearly defined stage presence. acted brilliantly tonight.
Nargis continued to support Rakhshi and was just as careful as Aslam's mother in handling the situation. One thing that stood out more than anything in this episode was Rakhshi's complete inability to stand up for himself. Now we know why she was always shown as such a scared and meek girl. This weakness will ultimately determine his future. Nargis continued to convince Rakhshi that he had to tell his father the truth, but it's pretty obvious he can't! Rabia Butt fits this role so well that the character of Nargis becomes even more impactful. The fact that Nargis is not always a pleasant personality, and that she can be exceptionally open at times, makes her character more "real".
The meeting between Faiz Ullah and Aslam's mother was written in an interesting way as the dialogues were such that she seemed to understand for a minute that Aslam and Rakhshi were having an affair. The fact that he had just visited his friend and finalized the wedding plans made his reaction even more believable. The conversation Sikandar's parents had had was significant too! Zainab's track didn't have much screen time tonight, but this scene was intense and very recognizable as Sabr is all he's got!
Aslam was overjoyed at the beginning of this episode even though Rakhshi didn't answer his calls! At the end of the episode, he changed completely. Rakhshi is a dodger who doesn't like fighting at all. he cares more and acts less. Your crying is definitely repetitive and annoying, but that's it! He was waiting for a miracle when he feared that his father would not consider this suggestion at all. The scene where Nargis told her what reactions she should have expected from her father was well written.
Misunderstandings and distrust have dimmed the glimmer of hope tonight, and Akram's confrontation with Faiz Ullah in the next episode will be the final nail in the coffin! I'm curious to know what the author has in store for us. The next episode will be filled with intense scenes and could be the end of Rakhshi and Aslam's romance! Already angry at the rejection, Akram is just looking for an excuse to confront Faiz Ullah. Faiz Ullah now mistrusts him more than usual, so he may be the one to initiate it. I am also waiting to "meet" Sikandar, as we have only "heard" from him so far, he has not yet appeared.
