I love how every episode of Pehli Si Mohabbat has a valid argument against worldly customs and the author convincingly questioning different norms. Faiza Iftikhar has already given us many memorable female characters, and this time around, Zainab and Nargis are two of those characters. The lead actress, Rakhshi, is a pretty typical character, but she's never been one of those annoying female characters with nothing but Bechargi to offer. However, Zainab and Nargis are distinguished for completely different reasons. Her tracks have been used convincingly to question stereotypes and, most importantly, what expectations families have of women. Aslam is flawed like many of the heroes written by a writer who is not afraid to tell the story of these people. There were so many heartwarming moments tonight and this episode also had many of those discussions that surely would have given parents so much to think about. Niggi tune again provided weird relief as the way it was handled and played was fun. Rakhshi eventually accepted Nargis as his mother and Aslam decided to take practical action without thinking about the consequences. It seems that this story also goes in the same direction as the story of Zainab.

 

I'll be really honest and say that Zainab's conversations with his mother caught my eye more than anyone else in this episode. Indeed, all of his dialogues and conversations were beautifully written. He tends to highlight with such honesty the things that are seldom highlighted in our plays. Uzma Hassan was exceptional in this role as you sense everything your character is going through at any given point in time. Her reaction and dialogue when her mother showered her with love after finding out that her husband had physically injured her was precious. Her mother is a "caring" person who does not allow anyone to "hurt" her daughter, but she also did not try to stop her son from forcing Zainab to lead a life he did not want to live. This track so amazingly highlighted how problematic these arranged marriages can be. It also shows that parents should understand that their children's feelings are important, as very often parents think that their only role is to "protect" their children and sometimes take that role so seriously that they end up being one Make decisions. Even today so many women are forced to marry against their will and are expected to do so because they "owe" it to their families. Pehli Si Mohabbat emphasizes how problematic this trend is.

Even after everything Zainab told her mother, she immediately refused to marry Aslam to Rakhshi. Again, the reason was that these two were already romantically involved! In addition, it is considered perfectly normal by many to please family members at the expense of children's happiness! Nargis' conversation with Faiz Ullah about consent was another such exchange that showed how "casually" the girl's consent was received in such a situation. All of these titles underscore the hypocrisy of a society that prides itself on having a strong family system, but the feelings of young people in a family are absolutely unimportant. There is a hierarchy in every house and, as Faiz Ullah pointed out, it is considered "inappropriate" for the older brother or father to ask for the girl's consent. Glad we have characters like Zainab and Nargis to educate those around them.

Niggi blackmail that had been going on for two weeks ended up with some intense and funny scenes. Nargis is a strong woman who knows how to deal with situations like this and I have to say this scene was shot so well. Rabia Butt and the actress who plays the role of Niggi performed exceptionally well in this scene. Maya Ali was just as convincing as the scared girl who didn't know how to deal with this situation. The way Niggi pulled back was fun! Aslam also decided to set foot this time around and devised a plan to counter niggi’s ongoing blackmail. That scene was fun and Shehryar Munawar did so well. Rakhshi finally trusts Nargis and now has someone to trust. We saw a stepmother take a stand for her stepdaughter and not judge her - it was the right upbringing! This was such a powerful and emotional scene.

Aslam has decided to break off the engagement tonight, a move that will get him in big trouble, but he knows he doesn't have much time now, so he had to do something fast. I felt for poor Bushra when Zainab pointed out that she was completely innocent. Aslam was as "polite" and honest as possible, but obviously his mother and her family will not "understand" the situation. The preview of the next episode showed that this time Aslam's mother won't repeat the mistake she made last time.

Today's episode of Pehli Si Mohabbat was another epic episode with a little bit of everything. This was the kind of episode that made you laugh and cry at the same time! The preview of the next episode was really exciting; Can't wait to see what happens next.
