Pehli Si Muhabbat Episode 6 Review
Pehli Si Mohabbat is much more than just a love story, which is why I decided to review this particular drama. Faiza Iftikhar always makes sure that even the simplest stories she has written highlight one of those social problems that are usually accepted as "normal". Other than that, I particularly enjoyed seeing some of the "everyday" scenes featured in the drama.
The fact that there are no extraordinary characters in the drama, but the story revolves around people we see around us on a daily basis, makes it more understandable. Credit for this also goes to the writer for telling stories of so common people that hardly anyone tells their stories.
Bhola was such a character and now I think Rakhshi and Aslam are the main characters too. In those 6 weeks I got hooked on all the main characters, and every week a new episode seems to look into the lives of these ordinary people who tell a story that could be ghar ghar ki kahani.
Some random thoughts
Arranged marriages are a reality in Pakistan and are widely glorified, as a child's loyalty to parents is primarily measured by how quickly they accept the candidate chosen for them by their parents. Many of these marriages are successful, but there are also loveless forced marriages that would not have happened if someone like Akram had been willing to respect the feelings and decisions of the person who was married. We have seen many of these love stories of parents becoming Samaj Ki Deewar, but I believe Pehli Si Mohabbat highlights how such decisions affect people more than any other drama. They reflect the family system and the authority that the head of the family enjoys and very often uses in our society.
The author has also conveniently highlighted the double standards that exist in our society. In the previous episode, Rakhshi's dialogues pointed to this double standard with utmost clarity when he told Aslam that his friend would be happy to know he was having an affair but would never allow his sister to continue being friends with girl, who he was having an affair with. It is true that women in our society bear the brunt of men, even when both are doing something that is considered "immoral" or unacceptable.
Nargis' character and track were also the highlights of every single episode. Pressures from society sometimes make it difficult for someone like you to settle down because people generally judge. I can easily connect everything shown to the criticism some actresses receive, even if they decide to leave showbiz and cover their heads! It is a fact that people in our society view others as a pastime without thinking about the consequences of their actions and never hold themselves equally accountable.
I am not particularly happy with Akram's character, but then I feel that he is a true representative of all those heads of families who do not allow the people they are responsible for to live their lives freely. The first two episodes, however, showed a different side to him, so at first I found his character a little confused; However, it is quite clear that he is a stiff and stubborn man who does not care about anyone's feelings.
The Zainab track gives depth to the Aslam and Rakhshi track. There is also a backstory to Akram and Rakhshi's track as both were influenced by Zainab's past. The Ishrat scenes also add to the general feeling of what a day at Aslam's home is like. Watching her get in her way as she mops the floor as he rushes over to Rakhshi was one of my favorite scenes. Some scenes were repetitive and it can be frustrating at times to see the lack of communication between Aslam and Rakhshi. Maya Ali and Shehryar Munawar are more convincing in these roles and in this drama than in Parey Hut Love.
These were some random thoughts on the drama in general as I only started reviewing it this week. I wanted to discuss everything I've seen so far before reviewing today's episode.
Today's episodeAslam's situation in this episode was very similar to that of many of these teenagers who are forced to marry their cousins because someone like Akram sees it well! Aslam's choice and feelings were not taken into consideration at all, but on the contrary, the whole process was speeded up after discovering that he did not want to marry Bushra. I had to understand how such simple situations become complicated due to a person's rigidity and control. Aslams haan or naa
it makes absolutely no difference; I always thought this particular aspect was covered so well. The same goes for Rakhshi, her father doesn't even sit down with her to talk about their marriage because most of her fathers don't talk to their daughters about these things!
The scene of Aslam's conversation with his friend was also very interesting as it showed how Aslam had once helped Zainab. This proved that he was always Pole separated from his brother. The conflict in his personality has always been evident, but over time it becomes more intense when Akram feels like he's losing control. He made Zainab marry someone she didn't want to marry, and now he's doing the same to Aslam. Her mother doesn't have much authority, so she can't change Aslam's decision, even if she's been given the perfect opportunity to do so.
The way Aslam has tried so many times to connect with Rakhshi and the excitement with which he haunts her whenever she gets the chance reflects the old school romance. Maya Ali and Shehryar Munawar did a great job of translating despair and mutual desire on screen. Director Anjum Shehzad brought these scenes to life by paying attention to the smallest details. The scene about Aslam's concern for Zainab and the way she told him she was fine when she obviously was really dissatisfied with her life was one of the best scenes of tonight.
The scenes of Nargis and Rakhshi tonight were also very similar to what we have seen before. The only new information we learned was why Nargis Rakhshi continues to provide these memories. Although she is her benefactor, she also has an ulterior motive, which makes her character more human than she is. Memories of Nargis are also the main reason for changing the way Rakhshi works. She has completely stopped communicating with Aslam after Nargis last warned her, and this time she will meet Aslam again so that she can ask him to do something tangible. In many ways, Nargis was central to the history of Aslam and Rakhshi. The fact that all the secondary characters influence this main track in one way or another makes the story more interesting. They also have their own stories and personalities, but everything they have done, done or said in some way changes the course of Aslam and Rakhshi's history.
Pehli Si Mohabbat is a simple but powerful story that so far has been told with the utmost clarity. The author has managed to aptly highlight certain weaknesses in the family system and the lack of empathy in people in general. While I watched most of these episodes for entertainment purposes only, while writing this review tonight I realized how much I had amassed of everything I had seen in the past 5 weeks.
Director Anjum Shehzad definitely worked hard to make sure all the scenes were translated realistically on screen. Most of the performances were convincing, and there are some that caught the eye more than others. Except for Aslam and Rakhshi's very cinematic first scene, all of the scenes were realistic. Pehli Si Mohabbat has a lot going for it and I really hope it continues to be engaging and meaningful. This drama showed in an intelligent way how easily a person's happiness is received in our social environment and how seriously the approval of other people is taken. The romance was electrifying and the reality tests were just as intense.
